EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT C1 TEST

The C1 test is important for people who want to live and work in Sweden. You might have questions about it, but do not worry. Here you will find everything you need to know about the C1 test. For more information regarding your questions, you are always welcome to contact us.

1- WHAT IS C1 TEST AND WHY WE NEED TO TAKE IT?

The C1 test is accepted by the National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen) when issuing professional licenses. https://legitimation.socialstyrelsen.se/legitimation/

The test is well-suited for people who need a certificate showing they have very good skills in the Swedish language. For example, a passed C1 test can show future employers that you have a very high level of Swedish. The test has no medical or profession-specific profile.

2- DO I NEED ANY SPECIAL SWEDISH LANGUAGE COURSE AT SWEDISH BRAIN TO TAKE THE C1 TEST?

No, you do not need to. The C1 test is an independent language test. This means it does not matter where or how you learned Swedish.

However, Swedish Brain offers C1-level courses for medical staff. In our medical Swedish courses, you will learn medical terminology, which can increase your opportunities to work in Sweden.

You can test your Swedish level by taking a placement test via EUROTEST at Folkuniversitetet:

4- Does the C1 test qualify me for university studies in Sweden?

No, the C1 test does not qualify you for Swedish university studies. For higher education and university studies, TISUS is required instead. TISUS corresponds to level C1 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

5- WHERE CAN I TAKE THE C1 TEST?

The test is currently offered in Ankara and Gothenburg. The speaking section of the test is ONLINE via Zoom.

6- HOW FAR IN ADVENCE DO I NEED TO APPLY?

You need to apply at least 4 weeks before the test date.

7- WHAT DOES IT COST TO TAKE C1 TEST?

The fee for the test is 2,000 SEK. (The price might change in the future.)

8- HOW DO I APPLY TO C1 TEST?

You apply by booking a test date on our website:

9- WHAT DOES C1 TEST CONSIST OF?

The C1 test tests all your language skills. It has the following parts:

  • Listening comprehension. Approx. 30 min

  • Reading comprehension. 60 min

  • Written assignment. 90 min

  • Oral communication. 15- 20 min per test candidate (on a different day)

10- CAN I BRING ANY AIDS?

No, no aids or dictionaries are allowed during any part of the test.

11- CAN I RE-TAKE THE TEST?

Yes, but you will need to retake the entire test, not just the part or parts you might have failed. A new application fee is required. We recommend waiting 3-6 months before retaking the test to give yourself time to develop your language skills further.

12- HOW IS THE TEST ASSESSED?

Each test is assessed by two evaluators. The grade is either Pass or Fail.

For the listening and reading comprehension parts, you must exceed a specific limit of correct answers. The written and oral parts are assessed separately to determine if they correspond to the C1 level. The test results are not analyzed further, and no comments are given.

If you fail one part, you fail the entire test and must retake all parts.

13- DO I RECEIVE A CERTIFICATE?

If you pass the C1 test, you receive a certificate (not a grade). If you fail, you will receive information about your result in each respective subtest.

14- HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RECEIVE THE CERTIFICATE?

You will receive the certificate within 2 – 3 weeks of passing the test.

15- HOW LONG SHOULD YOU HAVE STUDIED SWEDISH YO PASS THE C1 TEST?

You should have studied Swedish for at least 1.5 years, but this can vary greatly from person to person. It depends on how intensively you have studied, your language background, your age, and how much Swedish you use in your everyday life.

16- HOW CAN I PREPATE FOR THE C1 TEST?

A good way to prepare is to take a Swedish course at a suitable level. There is also a mock test available on the Swedex website that reflects how the test is structured.

You can also prepare by reading articles and factual texts in various fields, as well as listening to programs like Vetenskapsradion on Sveriges Radio.
